Historic Edinburgh Tours
In September 2016 we were honoured to be involved in the research and filming for a national Dutch TV program. ‘Verborgen Verleden’ is the Dutch equivalent of the BBC ‘Who do you think you are?’ and we worked with the researchers on a film segment with media personality Sacha de Boer. Not only did tour guide (and company owner) Robert feature on the program and prominently on the trailer, we also provided some material from our copyright archive of old Edinburgh imaged. We fulfilled a similar role in a student production about Greyfriars Kirkyard.
If your documentary needs a little local ‘colour’ and expertise, then we’d love to help! We’ve appeared on both national TV and in local student radio and video documentaries. It’s been an honour and a privilege to be involved in these projects. Robert, our Edinburgh guide, was born in just outside of the Old Town, to Scottish parents, and has lived here all his life. He’s a local primary school teacher and has led tour groups for over ten years. Our Tripadvisor reviews praise our story-telling abilities, our passion and our local Edinburgh knowledge. We’ve included some of our reviews at the bottom of this page. You can see our reviews here.

“He is a fantastic speaker, storyteller and personality. He delves back and forth in time, using great illustrations and photographs from his folder, and really makes the city come alive. The two hours passed incredibly quickly, and we would have been happy to follow him for another two, given a little break for liquid refreshment... He was beautifully dressed in Scottish regalia, which made the event even more special. If I could have, I would have hired him for the day to cover more of the city. One of the best walking tours I’ve ever taken; a really unforgettable experience.” TripAdvisor review - Alcabe - September 2018 I have been on three separate tours with Robert this week and all of them were fantastic. He is a wonderful storyteller and the passion with which he tells them, truly brings the past to life. If you’re looking for a fun & educational experience, this is the place to start! Thank you Robert! TripAdvisor review - Donna W - September 2017 “Robert is a very funny guy with a real gift of imparting information in an entertaining manner without any excessive theatrics. Very well researched and clearly loves this gig. Commented to the wife a couple of times how great a teacher this bloke must be. Lots of fascinating information and characters in a relatively small cemetery, with genuine local relevance.” TripAdvisor review - July 2019 “As a former professor of education, I was highly impressed by how front-man Robert incarnated all of the best principles of pedagogy. He has obviously done boodles of research on his topics, and can offer penetrating insights, often by comparing different versions, into the stories behind the gravestones and the mean streets of Edinburgh. He has mastered his delivery to the point where he can bring out the humour in what might otherwise be grim and depressing stories. He has an engaging personality, a strong, clear voice, and is considerate of his audience.” TripAdvisor review - Joseph P - April 2015
Robert frequently dresses in traditional Scottish clothing for his tours.
