“We joined Robert on his Victorian Poverty tour this evening…This was such a different perspective to take, I learned a great deal and explored a few back courts and closes that I had never seen in almost 50 years of living in and around the city. Highly recommend.” Kaz1903 TripAdvisor review - 5/5/2019 “Today Robert took us all over the Old City of Edinburgh, provided us with lots of back stories and did it with humour and enthusiasm. What a great time we had with him. My husband was born and raised in Edinburgh and today learned so much more about his birth city. Highly, highly recommend you book Historic Edinburgh Tours - we’re going to check out some of the many other tours offered and be back for a second time!” Sharone O TripAdvisor review - 22/42019 “Would 100% recommend this tour. Robert was a great guide, really informative, friendly and had good props. Robert went out of his way after a booking mishap on our behalf and gave us a private tour which he seemed more than happy to organise. The tour itself was very detailed and engaging with an indepth history of the city. We felt comfortably orientated after the tour and would highly recommend to anyone.” Abbeyh837  TripAdvisor review - 13/1/2019

“What can I say? What Robert doesn't know about Edinburgh isn't worth knowing quite frankly. Spent the best part of 2 hours with Robert meandering through the streets and closes of Old Town Edinburgh listening to endless stories of historical Edinburgh with visual aids to match bringing the city to life even more. If you do one thing in Edinburg, this is it!” Woodyboy21 TripAdvisor review - 31/3/2019 “The past is brought vividly to life through a combination of Robert's experienced story telling, with visual aides which tell the remarkable story of the buildings, people and events of his beloved city. The best spent two hours of a packed weekend for these two first-time visitors.” Paul D - TripAdvisor review - 23/1/2018 “First of all regardless of what I write I will not be able to share how much my family enjoyed this tour. My family booked a private tour so our children would have time to focus and interact with Robert. We wanted them to learn about the unique history of Edinburgh and the entire experience was without parallel… Overall, I hung on every word Robert said. I will be contacting him again, he has been the best tour guide we have had in years.” CircleMajik- TripAdvisor review - 2/6/2018
“This is a fantastic tour , a great way to find out the history of Edinburgh without being boring. The guide used imagery , props, his knowledge to tell us about the city , what it used to be like and the history behind the buildings and the people that live there . Would definitely recommend !” Julia124-13 TripAdvisor review - 28/4/2019 “Please do yourself a favour and go on this tour - Robert is kind, funny, and knowledgeable, and an absolute pleasure to listen to. He gives you a great insight into what life would have been like in old Edinburgh, as well as sharing a number of great historical tidbits about what did or didn't happen in the days of Queen Mary. “ Laura W  TripAdvisor review 5/2/2019 “It was brilliant! We explored Edinburgh's Old Town in a small group of three people together with Robert. Not feeling touristy at all! Robert had an answer to every question asked and an either cruel, funny or disgusting anecdote about every place we've visited. Our tour ended with a detailed explanation of the kilt and all its mysteries. Don't miss Robert's Tour if you come to Edinburgh.” Lena M  TripAdvisor review 2/2/2019

“Hello!  I’m Robert, and I’ll be your guide when you book any of our range of tours.  I’m the owner, researcher, planner and guide. I’ve been a primary school teacher for twenty-two years (yes, that number scares me too!) and I’ve always had a love of history.   I led my first guided tour in 2004 and set up Historic Edinburgh Tours with a colleague in 2013.   Since 2015 we’ve been a family run company. I was born five minutes walk from Greyfriars Kirkyard, I teach in the local area, and I received my University education at Moray House in the Canongate. I love taking visitors around the Old Town; there’s something very inspiring and flattering about being able to reveal some of the hidden stories and secrets of the town which I’m proud to call ‘home’.”
